Advanced wastewater treatment past projects

This project aims to develop a low-cost solution to transform inefficient sewage treatment ponds into self-contained environmental assets benefitting regional communities.  

Biosolids from sewage treatment are a problematic waste due to low product quality and high volume.

This project uses anaerobic co-digestion (AcoD) as a platform technology to transform FOGO (Food Organics Green Organics) into:
i) green renewable energy; and ii) fertilizer for land application.

The overall aim of the project is to develop and demonstrate the integrated use of anaerobic membrane bioreactor (anMBR) and nature-based filtration (tree-pit gardens) to achieve high quality reclaimed water.

This project aims to deliver a ready-to-deploy and scalable modular technology that is capable of removing PFAS from a variety of water sources, including groundwater and surface waters, to make them virtually PFAS-free and therefore safe for human consumption.

Currently wastewater treatment lagoons, are widely used for rural, regional, and low-density urban communities, however they have several shortcomings, including; odour impacts, limited treatment effectiveness, high greenhouse gas emissions and evaporative losses, and propensity to cause Cyanobacterial blooms.

This project will deliver a novel low-cost algal and bacterial aggregated floc-based (ABAF) biotechnology that can replace or be retro-fitted to existing regional treatment systems or algae-based production systems.
