ARC successful linkage grants have been recently announced, with some great outcomes for AWMC. AWMC is leading one and involved in two other awarded projects. I would like to thank all who made an effort to apply and I encourage those who were not successful this time to apply again in the near future.
The Centre recently gained two UQ Amplify Fellows, Dr Shihu Hu and Dr Steven Kenway. The UQ Amplify scheme aims at attracting, retaining and developing externally-funded Fellows while enhancing their career development and pathways.
I am pleased to announce the recent promotion of Dr Jianhua Guo to the position of Deputy Director Research. Jianhua has been with AWMC since 2013 and is an active researcher and has a strong commitment to knowledge transfer to industry. Jianhua’s research focuses on effective integration of process engineering, environmental microbiology and environmental biotechnology to develop innovative and sustainable technological solutions to achieve high-levels of nutrient removal from wastewater. His team’s findings related to antibiotic resistance recently attracted attention from the media.
In the 2019 Nature Index table, UQ ranked number 79 worldwide and number 1 in Australia, with AWMC contributing greatly to those results. AWMC’s fractional count (FC) of 20.38 accounts for 13.9% of the UQ total FC of 146.98, and 66.6% of EAIT’s 30.62. This is a remarkable achievement and AWMC is proud of its contribution.
AWMC staff has been deeply involved in the delivery of IWES courses in July this year, which attracted nearly 100 participants. In August, AWMC will be acquiring the IWES brand. IWES is owned by UQ and is a leading provider of short courses for professionals in the environmental industry in Australia.
AWMC is looking forward to providing this great service to environment industry professionals.
