Wastewater surveillance to trace community spread of COVID-19 and signal early warnings
Duration:
February 2020
This project will establish a wastewater-based epidemiology method to trace the spread of COVID-19. This method can estimate the number of COVID-19 infections at catchment level (accounting for both symptomatic patients and silent carriers), which will complement the current medical surveillance system which is based on individual tests. This method will also identify the hotspots of virus shedding and send out early warning signals of further potential COVID-19 outbreak.
Project outcomes
The outcomes of this project will provide timely information to state government and water utilities for decision making during the COVID-19 pandemic.
