Celebrating 25 years of AWMC

First established as the Advanced Wastewater Management Centre in 1996 as a collaboration between The University of Queensland and the Cooperative Research Centre for Waste Management and Pollution Control, our Centre has become an internationally renowned centre of excellence in innovative water science and technology.

Our award-winning multidisciplinary team delivers research that covers the breadth of the urban and industrial water cycles.

We have graduated over 188 PhD students, and invested over $132 million dollars into creating impact to bring social, environmental, and economic benefit to our partners and the broader community. 

Our success in the field of water is underpinned by scientific and technical excellence in environmental engineering and environmental biotechnology. 

The major capacity in biotechnology that we have built through our partnerships with water utilities and the agri-industry sector enables us to contribute to a sustainable future beyond the water sector.

I am very pleased to announce that as of July 2021, the Advanced Water Management Centre (AWMC) will become the Australian Centre for Water and Environmental Biotechnology (ACWEB).

Renaming the Centre gives us greater scope in our research portfolio, and broadens public knowledge of the Centre’s research from water management into circular economy and energy recovery. We are looking forward to the new research opportunities this change will bring us.
